Version Pre-Alpha 0.003


Hello! It's Gem here, the lead developer of Ke Akua!

Today's update is one of the larger ones we have released. This gets rid of A LOT of the UI in the game and replaces it with status effects to show thirst, hunger, and health. One of the players really disliked how much UI there was in the game, so we are trying to keep it to a minimum. Right now, we am trying to find a new immersive way of crafting in the game, using minimal UI. We do want to keep some. Such as in this update, we changed the crafting system completely for:

  • Coir Pillar: A series of knots are put into a UI and you have to tie the right order to get the item you want. Currently, the most useful order is: 1, 1, 1,1 to make twine using coir. 
  • Carving Tool (New Item): Equip it and hit a Wood Log you place to make it into 3 planks.

We took this approach to experiment with what the player finds more fun. We will be adding a lot more ways to make specific items ranging from rituals to makeshift anvils!

We also found that we had a DIRE situation with the tutorial, as no one knew how to play, and just quit immediately. Now, we implemented the pause menu with the middle mouse (changing to esc in the next update), and the save system, so you can actually play the game and have some fun.

We know, the gods don't have as much depth as the base game at this point. Right now, our team is currently going through Hawaiian and greater Polynesian Folklore to gather as many gods as we can to get to make it a necessity to have a god, but at the same time still have a core game without them (The Athiest Playthrough).

Lastly, we fixed the inventory drag bug. Now you may drag items around all you want!
